About Us

At Hopewell Baptist Church, our faith is centered on Jesus Christ and the good news of the Gospel. We believe the Bible is God’s Word and the foundation for what we believe and how we live.

But being part of a church is about more than simply agreeing with a list of beliefs. It’s about knowing Christ, growing in faith, loving one another, and serving together. We want Hopewell to be a place where people can worship God, find genuine Christian community, grow in their relationship with Jesus, and make a difference in the lives of others.

What We Believe

Baptist Faith and Message 2000

Christians have expressed the foundational truths of their faith in statements of belief for centuries. At Hopewell, we believe it is helpful to clearly explain the core beliefs that guide us as a church.

In 2015, Hopewell Baptist Church unanimously adopted the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 as our official statement of faith. It summarizes the essential Christian beliefs we hold as a church and helps us express what we believe the Bible teaches about some of the most important aspects of our faith.

The Baptist Faith and Message 2000 is not a replacement for Scripture, nor is it intended to cover everything the Bible teaches. Instead, it provides a concise overview of the beliefs we share as a church.

Our Church Covenant

Being part of Hopewell means more than attending a worship service. We believe we are called to walk through life together as a church family—to encourage one another, pray for one another, serve one another, and point one another toward Christ.

Our church covenant expresses that commitment:

Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive Jesus Christ as the Lord, Savior, and supreme Treasure of our lives, and, on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God, angels and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.

We covenant, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love, to strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge, holiness and peace; to promote its spirituality and fruitfulness; to sustain its worship, ordinances, and discipline; to sincerely hold to its doctrine, as found in the Baptist Faith and Message 2000; to give it a sacred pre-eminence over all institutions of merely human origin; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations.

We also covenant to maintain family and personal devotions; to educate our children in the Christian faith; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment, to avoid all tattling, backbiting and excessive anger; to seek God’s help in abstaining from all drugs, food, drink, and practices which bring unwarranted harm to the body or jeopardize our own or another’s faith.

We further covenant to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember one another in prayer; to aid one another in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation and mindful of the rules of our Savior to secure it without delay.

We moreover covenant, that should we move from this place, we will as soon as possible, unite with some other likeminded church, where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.

In simpler terms, our covenant is a commitment to follow Jesus together. We want to be a church family that loves God, cares for people, forgives readily, helps one another through difficult seasons, and faithfully shares the Gospel.

Our Vision - Why We Are Here

Our purpose is simple: to glorify Jesus Christ and make Him known.

We believe one of the most powerful ways we do that is by the way we love and care for one another. Jesus said, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:35)

When we gather, we worship through singing, prayer, and the teaching of God’s Word. We encourage one another, share life’s joys and challenges, and look for ways to serve our neighbors and our community.

And we don’t want that ministry to stop at the doors of Hopewell. We serve together so that Jesus might be known and worshipped—not only here in Louisville, but around the world.
